High Temperature Protection for Wiring Harnesses

As Euro 5 and Euro 6 emissions standards  present increasing challenges to today’s diesel engine manufacturers, the one thing we know for sure is that operating temperatures around the engine bay are going to continue to rise.  Every component, including the wire harness, cables,  hoses, and flexible EGR tube is now at risk for heat damage if it is located near the engine, exhaust or turbo.

The protection of wire harnesses from radiant heat presents specific problems. While silicone rubber coated  sleeves such as Aerostyle Pyrojacket® can be the answer for high ambient temperature  applications up to 500°F (260°C) continuous, how does one handle significantly higher temperatures encountered in radiant exposure applications?  In these most difficult applications, Pyreflect™ sleeve can be the answer. Rated for 650°F (323°C) continuous, with short term exposure as high as 3000°F (1650°C), Pyreflect™  has high emissivity and reflects over 90% of radiant heat energy.

Pyreflect utilizes a unique combination of Nomex and Kevlar in its woven insulation substrate, along with a double-mirror Mylar Aluminization that withstands 650°F, compared to other aluminum foils which begin to break down at 240°F.  It can be installed as close as 3” ( 76 mm) to a 1200°F (649°C) exhaust manifold. Wiring harnesses used in diesel engine applications for buses, trucks,  and off highway applications can now be custom engineered to withstand the heat stress encountered in the most demanding Euro 5 and Euro 6 applications.

Since Pyreflect™ is a slip-on sleeve, it can be applied to the wire harness in only the section that encounters high heat, saving on material costs and design costs. OEM’s  choose Insulflex® high temperature protection products  because of available independent lab testing and recognized certifications like UL1441, GL, (Germanischer Lloyd)  ISO 15541, ISO 5658-2, ISO 5659-2, ISO 5660-1, DIN EN45545-2,   MSHA and SAE AS1072, giving designers the confidence to specify heat protection sleeves into the most demanding applications.

Let ADL INSULFLEX help you with your most difficult high heat challenge for the protection of wire harnesses in automotive, aerospace and marine applications.
